My year in blogging

It was a mixed year for me as a blogger. I didn’t post much as I would have liked – I spent most of the year working with eBay in a process that eventually led to Hunch being acquired. But I also learned a lot and tried to share some of those learnings here. Below are the posts I think were the best and also seemed to get the most pageviews and reader comments.

An internet of people

Making industries “garage ready” for startups

Business development: the goldilocks principle

Some lessons learned

Do you want to sell sugar water or do you want to change the world?

What the NYC startup world needs (and doesn’t need)

Founder/market fit

Best practices for raising a VC round

There are two kinds of people in the world

Apple and the TV industry

Google’s social strategy

MIT is a national treasure

Dropbox and why you should invest in people

SEO is no longer a viable marketing strategy for startups

Selling pickaxes during a gold rush

Predicting the future of the Internet is easy: anything it hasn’t yet dramatically transformed, it will.

For older posts, see the contents page. I haven’t updated this page in a long time but plan to do so soon.

According to my numbers, you should focus posting on Sundays and Tuesdays, and keep the number of characters in your titles to <25 to gain the most reactions.

I always wanted to do that. I can now move on. :)

(Thanks for a year of great posts!)

ha, what numbers are you basing that on? sounds like good advice.

Nothing special: Titles, dates, reactions. Just a little fun on a Wednesday night.

Hey Chris, I thought your posts were awesome this year. Thanks for sharing the learning. The problem of “trust” and how you build it, keep it, use it on the internet has been on my mind a lot lately so your an “internet of people” post was very timely. Looking forward to 2012!

Besides all this, there’s also ‘Founder Stories’. Hate to be a fanboy but it’s been consistently good since your first interview of Turntable (pre-pivot).

Is there any chance you might take questions/suggestions to write on more specific topics, especially in the consumer web space?

thanks! sure, fire away, and if it is something I think I know something about happy to write about it.

        Cool!

One of the big trends I (& presumably many others) would love to hear your take on is Micronetworks. Think Path for starters. But even bigger, the focus on one-to-one interactions vs. the broadcast mentality of Facebook/Twitter etc.

They work on a different set of social dynamics I believe and there is opportunity to leverage deeper engagement IMHO.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Hey Chris – you can also check out http://cdixon.disqus.com/admin/analytics/activity#/start=2011-01-01&end=2011-12-31 to see your most active threads, most popular comments, etc.

Belated congrats on the acquisition btw. Was glad to see the @hunch:twitter team will be staying in NYC.

thanks ro! love the analytics. is there a way to see a graph for the whole year?

      • http://rocrastination.com/ Ro Gupta

Yup – in the Activity, People and Network tabs you should see a date picker in the upper right.
In fact this is what @fredwilson:disqus  used to write http://www.avc.com/a_vc/2011/12/a-2011-retrospective-on-the-avc-community.html
